 Hi

Shelair Groenendaels, established in 1997, is owned by Sheila and Claire Denby.

I started out, in my native Scotland, with German Shepherds more than 25 years ago. I married and moved to Ireland where we always had GSD's in our home, competing lightly in obedience. We then moved to Dallas, Texas where we had three female GSD's with us. I competed in obedience, gaining a CD title on “Sheeba” with a score of 197 and a half out of 200. I also showed them with success winning many Best Bitch and Best of Breeds.  Coming back to Ireland we had to have another GSD, this time a male! “Ozzy” came into our lives and was adored by all of us. He successfully competed in obedience and tried his hand at agility. We were all devastated when due to illness he had to be given peace at such a young age. He still is very sadly missed at Shelair.

In 1995 my daughter Claire started to handle Belgian Shepherds but it wasn't until 1997 that we became involved in the beautifully elegant Groenendael.

We obtained our first dog, Revloch Jack Daniels of Shelair, "Danie" has indeed made us very proud by being our first Groenendael, our first Irish Champion, winner of 32 Green Stars (30 with BOB) with 3 x CACIB's and also having obtained 2 x CC's + 4 x RCC's in Great Britain. "Danie" has now retired from the show ring, having achieved far more than we ever expected.  When we imported our second Groenendael, Vanistica Chinon of Shelair we did not realise the impact she would make on the Irish show scene. "Emma" become our second Irish Champion. She was also Top Groenendael Bitch in Ireland in 2000, 2002 & 2005.

"Emma" has now made history by becoming the 1st dog and the 1st Belgian Shepherd (any variety) to have passed the IKC Working Test to qualify for the FCI International Beauty Title.

They produced a beautiful litter of eight puppies in July 2001, see the Litters page. Out of this litter we decided to keep a dog - “Travis” and as Claire fell in love with a beautiful little bitch - “Jem” we definitely had to keep her too!! We have certainly been extremely lucky with our first litter and their successes in the show ring. See their individual pages for their results.

"Jem" has now made history by becoming the 1st Irish bred Belgian Shepherd (any variety) to have passed the IKC Working Test to qualify for the FCI International Beauté Title

In 2005, we imported our second Groenendael from Vanistica, the top winning GB Kennel in the history of the breed. “Spenser” has certainly livened up our home with his huge personality and huge coat!! His pedigree speaks for itself and we are looking forward to showing this super male.

All our dogs hold a special place in our hearts, and to us they are priceless. They have great fun living with us, whether they are showing, or more importantly simply lazing around on the couch enjoying a cuddle! As our dogs are loved as part of our family, we could never give any of them away to anyone else when they have "finished" either being shown or bred from. We hope you enjoy looking at the photos of our beautiful dogs. Please sign our Guest Book to let us know you were here. You are welcome to visit us again to see how our dogs are doing.
